Change in Builders Risk Insurance
In light of the increased cost and the difficulty contractors have experienced in obtaining Builders Risk insurance since the events of September 11, 2001, the Office of General Services, Design and Construction Group has made a change in the Article 19 of the Contract General Conditions relating to the requirements for Builders Risk Insurance.
On contracts, which contain the new Article 19.2.4, contractors will no longer be required to provide a Builders Risk Policy for the value of the contract. The State has procured a Master Builders Risk policy to cover the work except that the Contractor shall be liable for the applicable sliding scale deductible from $10,000 to $25,000 based on the value of your contract. The schedule of deductible is contained in Document 00433 of the bid package.
Be sure to carefully review the General Conditions, and in particular, Article 19.2.4 Builder's Risk, which are contained in the bid package to determine the extent of insurance coverage, required by the contract you are bidding.
