New York State Alternative Fueled Vehicles Program
New York State is leading the way in the acquisition and use of alternative fueled vehicles by its agencies, authorities, and universities.
The mission of the Alternative Fueled Vehicles Program is to:
- Assist New York State agencies, authorities, state universities and community colleges in acquiring and utilizing alternative fueled vehicles.
- Satisfy federal and state requirements for purchasing such vehicles.
- Develop a comprehensive, conveniently accessible statewide network of fueling stations to support the vehicles.
The Program's key goals are to:
- Play an important role in addressing New York's need to restore, preserve and protect its valuable environmental resources.
- Help to reduce air pollutants to ensure a clean environment in New York for current and future generations.
- Contribute to the nationwide effort to reduce dependence on foreign sources of oil.
Executive Order No. 111, issued June 10, 2001, positions New York to become even more energy efficient and environmentally aware. Section 8, Alternative-Fuel Vehicles, of the Executive Order No. 111 "Green and Clean" State Buildings and Vehicles Guidelines details AFV acquisition and annual reporting requirements for state entities. These guidelines were distributed to state agencies in December 2001. The New York State Alternative Fueled Vehicles Program is a coordinated effort designed to help agencies, authorities, and state universities acquire and utilize alternative fueled vehicles, and also satisfy federal requirements for purchasing such vehicles.
