Sitting majestically atop Albany's State Street hill, the New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880s. The building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur, built by hand of solid masonry over a period of 32 years.

Visiting the Hall of Governors and Capitol exhibits: Governor Cuomo has reopened the Capitol's historic Hall of Governors to the public. Sweeping renovations have been made, including the addition of portraits, informational signs, and a timeline. Museum-quality exhibits on New York State's history have been installed throughout the building. For more information, visit the Hall of Governor's website at:

All tours of the New York State Capitol are free of charge.

Weekday Walk-In Tours 

Special Tour Women's Suffrage in New York State

New York State is where the first Women's Rights Convention was held in Seneca Falls in 1848 and where women won the right to vote in 1917, three years before the 19th amendment was ratified. This special onehour tour will explore the connections between the Capitol and the historic fight for suffrage. It will feature an exhibit of artifacts selected to showcase the suffragists' journey from earliest ambition to success.

Tours will be held on the following dates. Special registration is required for the Saturday, March 11 tour. Please call 518-474-2418.

Tour dates:
Wednesdays: March 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 5:30 p.m.
Fridays: March 10, 17, 24, and 31 at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday: March 11 at noon (preregistration is required for the Saturday tour only and can be done online or by calling 518-474-2418)
